We often have many clients enquire about our newborn sessions, we understand it can be daunting when looking at choosing the right photographer for you and your family, we thought we would put together some of our most frequently asked questions to help ease your mind before your booking in your newborn session! If we missed one of your burning questions, please leave a comment below for us!
Where is your studio located?
• Our home based studio is located in North Brisbane, we do however offer on-location in the comfort of your own home for an additional fee.
When is the best time to book our newborn session?
• We recommend booking as early as possible and while still pregnant, it can be a stressful time towards the end of the third trimester and babies can arrive at any time. We are only able to book a limited number of newborn sessions each month as some babies decide to arrive early while some are content inside and in no rush to join us. When we book your newborn session, we tentatively reserve your session on your due date to secure your session and once your little one has made their arrival you contact us to let us know your exciting news and to schedule and confirm the session date and time.
What is the best age for them to be photographed?
• It is best to photograph them sooner rather then later with the best time being 5-10 days new. Older babies can still be photographed, however most newborn images you will see in our portfolio are this young. Photographing them this fresh allows us to capture their tiny details and features and pose them in those beautiful curled poses you see. Newer babies also seem to be more settled and are more content as reflux or colic, any skin flaking or blemishes, growth spurts don’t generally start to appear until around 14+ days.
How long does a newborn session take? What should we expect?
• We allow extra time for feeding, cuddles and set changes for our newborn sessions, we want it to be as stress free as possible so we don’t want you to feel rushed to feed during the session. Our newborn sessions are generally 2-3 hours long however in rare cases we may spend extra time soothing your little one so it may run a little longer, we don’t charge any extra if we do run over time, as we want to give you the best gallery of images to choose from.
What if my baby doesn’t sleep or is unsettled during the session?
• If your little one is unsettled during the session we will spend time feeding, wrapping and comforting them. In the very rare case we are unable to settle them at all, we will reschedule for another day as there could be a medical reason your little one is upset, such as severe constipation, reflux, sickness or any other condition which would cause them to be unsettled. If your little one is awake and settled, we will photograph them awake. Their expressions and beautiful eyes are something we can’t replicate, it is their own individual personality! We are all about capturing your little one as they are, we go with the flow with what they want, as really, they run the session!

What should we wear for our family images?
• Neutral plain or textured clothing works best, we suggest bringing a dark and a light set to give you a variety of images to choose from. We recommend steering away from bold or loud colours and patterns or shirts with logo’s as we want your images to be timeless.
Do you supply outfits, props & accessories such as headbands, beanies etc. Do I need to bring any of our own?
• Using our signature style of natural tones, organic textures, beautiful soft lighting and tasteful props, we work with you and your family to create timeless artworks that will last a lifetime. We have a huge range of wraps, blankets, backdrops, bowls, nests, props, headbands, beanies and outfits. Before your session, we will select items based on your questionnaire answers and have them out ready for your session, we then get you to select your favorites on the day. If you have something special or meaningful you would like us to include, please let us know and bring it along as we love adding personal touches to your images to make them extra special.
I’ve seen a photo I like on facebook/pinterest/google, could you replicate this photo &/or pose?
• As each baby is different, they are not all able to pose in the same way. Your newborns safety is paramount and some poses are not safe for their fragile little bodies. In many instances, the images you may see are composite images which are 2 or 3 images photo-shopped to give you the one final image, most of these look unnatural as they aren’t a pose a newborn could do on their own. We want your newborn poses to be as natural as possible, we follow their lead with how they curl up and lay and won’t put them in any poses which could potentially hurt them.
